Koshihimo are thin belts that are used to keep a kimono tightly tied together. Traditionally they are simple strips of cotton or silk fabric, which can come loose after a while, and can be uncomfortable if worn too tight. The ingenious solution to both these problems is these easy-to-use elasticated koshihimo, which simply clip together and stay together all day.

How to Use Elasticated Koshihimo Belts

Before putting on your kimono, measure the correct length by placing the board in the front and center of your body, wrapping the ends behind you and bringing them back to the front. You should aim for the ends to be about 4”-8” (10-20cm) apart at the front without pulling. You can increase or decrease the length by lifting the adjustable clip and letting the belt in or out.

Once you have measured the correct length, you can put on your kimono, then put the koshihimo on over your kimono. Wrap behind you again, and this time pull together at the front and clip together.
